Reiki is a form of alternative therapy commonly referred to as energy healing. It emerged in Japan in the late 1800’s and is said to involve the transfer of universal energy from the practitioner’s palms to their patient. Energy healing has been used for centuries in various forms and now there are tens of thousands of reiki master teachers and millions of people practicing reiki world-wide.
My reiki practice is held in a peaceful and private environment . The room is comfortable with a therapy massage table or recliners, depending on where you feel most comfortable to receive your healing (fully clothed).
To begin with we will discuss any of your physical or mental concerns and what you are hoping to gain from your reiki healing session.
Once you are comfortable and relaxed I will place my hands lightly over specific areas of the head, limbs, and torso using different hand shapes to scan your body for any blockages or ailments. If there is a particular injury, my hands may be held just above the area. I will also focus on each chakra to balance and energise your energy centres.
While I hold my hands lightly over the body, the transfer of energy takes place. During this time, my hands will be warm and tingling. Each hand position is held until I sense that the energy has stopped flowing. When I feel the heat, or energy, in my hands has abated, I will remove my hands and may place them over a different area of the body.
If you would like to receive a crystal healing at the same time as your reiki, I will lay the crystals on your chakras when I begin the healing session. After we finish you will also be given your activated crystal set to take home with you.
Every person responds differently. After the healing session we can discuss how you might feel over the next few days. Drinking plenty of water is a must!
The five principles of Reiki
The philosophy of Reiki is rooted in five principles. These principles provide guidance for healing and balancing your Reiki energy. Let’s look at each one more closely.
Just for today, I release angry thoughts
It’s normal to feel angry sometimes. This emotion can be triggered by many scenarios, like dealing with a rude co-worker or getting cut off in traffic. But according to Reiki, anger doesn’t come from these outside events. Instead, it stems from angry energy already within you. This principle aims to help you release this energy. It encourages you to recognize anger and to let it go, allowing you to invite happiness into your life.
Just for today, I release thoughts of worry
Many of us worry about things that haven’t happened yet. And while it’s easy to feel like that worry comes from an external source, Reiki maintains that it starts from within. If you’re holding on to worry energy, thinking about future events can produce negative emotions. However, if you’re able to release this energy, you may have an easier time living in the present moment and worrying less about the future.
Just for today, I’m grateful
This is a reminder to express gratitude for all that you have. By slowing down and recognizing the good in your life, it may help you foster more positive energy.
Just for today, I expand my consciousness
In Reiki, actively practicing mindfulness is key to balancing your energy. This principle encourages you to recognize how you’ve been more conscious about appreciating the present moment.
Just for today, I’m gentle with all beings
This principle focuses on how being kind to others lets you receive positive energy in return. It includes being gentle with yourself, which is essential for spiritual health.
